Philip Spruell has donated $5,000 to the Hill College Music Department, which they have used to purchase a new set of timpani for the band. The previous set of timpani were over 60 years old and according to Phillip Lowe, coordinator of visual and performing arts, “We’ve needed new timpani for several years and through this generous donation we were able to purchase a new set of Ludwig timpani and used them for the first time in our spring band concert a few weeks ago. It was quite a thrill for the band and our timpanist.” Steve Hart, director of bands at Hill College, added, “A wonderful and generous donation which allowed us to replace vital and costly equipment. The new timpani sound great!”

Spruell’s association with the College began with attending the Performing Arts Series. The Performing Arts Series presents four to six programs per year to students, faculty, staff and the community. These free-admission programs bring outstanding performing artists of all genres to Hillsboro each year and, in addition to the concerts, allows for those in attendance to interact with the artists in the receptions which follow each event.
